Deciding Together - adult mental health

After a detailed consultation, the NHS have announced their decision about the future sites for mental health services in Newcastle and Gateshead:

  • Adult acute mental health admission wards will be provided
    from Newcastle, St Nicholas Hospital
  • Adult mental health rehabilitation wards will be provided
    from St Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle and Elm House in
  • Older People mental health admission wards for Newcastle
    will be provided from St Nicholas Hospital, Newcastle

Community services will be delivered across Newcastle and
Gateshead, as now, and improved community support is being

These decisions appear to take into account many of the views
expressed by carers in Newcastle about the need to think about
transport, visiting, and how important it is for people to be close
to home during their recovery.
