Carers Week 2019

Wednesday 19th June

Staff and volunteers in selfie frame at awards ceremony

Carers Week took place this year from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 June. It is an annual campaign to raise awareness about caring, highlight challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

This Carers Week we had a fantastic week of celebrating carers and raising awareness!:

  • On Tuesday 11 June representatives from services supporting carers in Newcastle, including Newcastle Carers, went along to the Grainger Market for an Information and Advice Drop-in. We gave out lots of information about Carers Week and carers, and also spent time chatting to those who popped by to visit us.
  • On Thursday 13 June we held our Carer Friendly Communities Awards Ceremony at the Discovery Museum, and what a fantastic celebration it was! The ceremony gave carers a chance to nominate an individual, group or business for an award, to recognise the positive difference they have made - a chance to say “thank you”.

Did you listen to BBC Radio Newcastle interview on Friday 14 June with Georgia and Claire? As part of Carers Week, Jayne Middlemiss interviewed both young adult carer, Georgia, and Newcastle Carers Young Adult Carers Worker, Claire, to highlight caring and support available. Listen to the interview here (Georgia at 20:48 and Claire at 38:37).

There was lots of social media activity, check out our social media to see #CarersWeek videos and posts: Facebook and Twitter
