About Us

Our funders, supporters and awards

Newcastle Carers is an independent charity, funded by a contract with Newcastle City Council and Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group, alongside donations, grants and trust funds.

Through raising awareness, working with our partners and raising more funds, we are confident we will continue to improve the quality of life for carers and help to prevent, reduce or delay the negative effects of caring.

If you care for someone who lives in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Carers Wellbeing Fund may be able to provide a small grant to help you as a carer. The fund is intended to support carers in need and to improve their own health and wellbeing.

Can I apply?

You may be eligible for the fund if:

  • You are an unpaid carer
  • You are over 18
  • The person you care for lives in Newcastle upon Tyne

What can I apply for?

You can apply for a small grant of up to £200 for something that will improve your health and wellbeing. This could be:

  • A holiday or weekend break in the UK
  • College course fees, books or equipment
  • Gym membership, exercise classes, swimming sessions, etc.
  • Driving lessons
  • Purchase of items for an activity or hobby e.g. a tent or a bicycle
  • Household items, e.g. a washing machine, a cooker or a fridge

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply for a grant, contact us for an application pack, or download one from the top of the page.

Please read the application pack carefully to make sure you’re eligible and that the fund can cover what you would like to apply for.

The fund is discretionary. This means that there is limited money available so not all applications will be successful. Please provide all the information requested in as much detail as possible to give your application the best chance of success.

The money is provided by Newcastle City Council and the NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group and is administered by Newcastle Carers.

If you’ve had a grant in the past you will have to wait 12 months from that payment before you can apply to the Carers Wellbeing Fund. We must have received your receipts for any previous grants for any new  application to be considered.

You can only apply once every twelve months, even if your application is unsuccessful, so think carefully about what would help you most.

Our Carer Information & Advice Workers are available to discuss your caring role with you and help prioritise your needs.
